Initiated by DGA and Industrials Societies in 1990, the Workshop is reserved to Industrials, Defence organizations, Public and Private Laboratories involved in the design of Radar and Targets.

The themes are Defence and Civilian topics :

RCS, Targets and antennas designs, EMC …

The idea is to highlight predictive and validated computational tools to compare and federate current works on reference problems.

The aim is to obtain “very careful validation and reference results”.

Additional objectives are :

  • To conduct works on ill-resolved problems,
  • To compare the different methods,
  • To assess the existing codes,
  • To know the “state of the Art”

To participate at the WORKSHOP EM ISAE 2012

One must solve at least one complete test case, which must also be accepted by the Scientific Committee of the Workshop. The solutions will be sent to the two Scientific Secretaries.

Computations and tests funding are supported by participants. Results remain author’s property and can only be conveyed to participants attending the Workshop.

A registration form will be sent to the authors of selected results and a 100 € participation will be asked.

- The WORKSHOP will be held at :

  • Institut Supérieur Aéronautique et Espace
  • Campus ENSICA

Introduction

The problems could be solved by different methods to be chosen by each participant.
Each participant are invited to provide a short report with the method(s) used to solve the problems and ASCII files of the required results to the scientific secretaries before October 15.
During the workshop, the test-cases will be presented by the Chairmen and followed by an open discussion with the participants on the theoretical background and the qualities of the method used (parameters, convergence, time, number of iterations, etc.).
Some data files (CAD, mesh) are available. If any, participants are invited to provide its to the Chairmen for the other participants.

1. Monostatic RCS of a rough surface

Download : Monostatic RCS of a rough surface - CAD files

- Chairmen : Gildas Kubické (DGA-Maîtrise de l’information), Yannick Béniguel (IEEA)

This problem addresses the computation of the monostatic RCS of a rough surface. The selected surface is a perfectly conducting disk. The height distribution is Gaussian and its autocorrelation function is exponential. This disk has been manufactured. Its RCS has been measured in an anechoïc chamber (CHEOPS at DGA / MI). The measurement results will be presented as a comparison.

2. EBG Material

Download : EBG Material - CAD files (send an e-mail to André Barka with the object : "Workshop ISAE 2012 : test case 2 CAD file request")

- Chairmen : André Barka(ONERA), Philippe Ratajczak (Orange Labs)

This test concerns the simulation of the field diffracted by an 8x20 EBG array constituted by alumina dielectric rods.

3. High Impedance Surface :

3.a MetaSurface CrossRoll

Download : MetaSurface CrossRoll - CAD files

- Chairman : Guillaume Sylvand (EADS Innovation Works)

3.b Passive Reflectarray Antenna

Download : Passive Reflectarray Antenna - CAD files (send an e-mail to Philippe Ratajczak with the object : "Workshop ISAE 2012 : test case 3b CAD file request"

- Chairman : Philippe Ratajczak (Orange Labs)

This test case concerns the radiation pattern of a passive reflectarray antenna. The reflectarray is composed of 8 Fresnel zones of mushroom cells.

4. Bistatic RCS of a NASA almond with wings

Download : Bistatic RCS of a NASA almond with wings - CAD files

- Chairmen : Matthieu Bardon (CEA/CESTA), Quentin Carayol (Dassault Aviation)

This test case concerns the bistatic RCS simulation of a perfectly conducting NASA almond with wings. The RCS is calculated for two incident angles and two observation sweeps. The frequency of the simulation is 8 GHz.

5. Cavity with Internal Obstacle

Download : Cavity with Internal Obstacle - CAD files

- Chairmen : Laurent Virette (MBDA), Philippe Pouliguen (DGA/MRIS)

This geometry has a geometrical linear discontinuity located inside the waveguide, this being closed to situations possibly occurring in practice.

Besides the interest presented by this computation case for the correct evaluation of backscattered energy from the discontinuity, it is equally interesting in view of understanding the modulation of this energy by the walls of the cavity.

6. Metallic cavity filled with PVC

Download : Metallic cavity filled with PVC

- Chairmen : Jérome Simon (ONERA), Frank Weinman (Fraunhofer)

This test case concerns the monostatic RCS and ISAR images

7. Printed Filter

Download : Printed Filter

- Chairmen : Jean-Paul Martinaud(Thales), André Barka(ONERA)
