Our new SDR radar

The educational platform RALF has recently acquired its first SDR radar. The system transmits a versatile waveform (e.g., FMCW, CW, FSK) in K-band (24 GHz) and includes an advanced dual channel receiver.

Data are given in baseband and can be stored in Matlab format for post-processing operations : ideal for implementing state-of-the-art or new detection algorithms !

It is an easy access to radar experimental data enabling both teaching and research activities.

See our first collected data with 2GHz bandwidth of a small remote-controlled car driving towards the radar.

RALF facilities upgrade

For this new academic year (2016/2017), the electronics, optronics and signal department (DEOS) decided to extend and optimize our software defined radio platform due to the growing number of students in telecommunication engineering :

the whole room 07.113 is now completely focused on software defined radio (SDR) applications (see htp://ralf.isae.fr for examples) ;
a new layout enables practical labs and mixed lecture/demos to about 20 students ;
6 additional stations have been deployed, making a total of 14 stations ;
key card access control has been added for a more flexible use of the room.

This technical room will be extensively used for various courses : digital communications, network simulation, radar signal processing... The hacklab (student association) will also be hosted in this room.

RALF presentation at DGA Maîtrise de l'information

RALF will be presented during a workshop on software defined radio (SDR) applications at DGA Maîtrise de l'Information. The event will be held on the 3rd June, in Rennes (France). Since the project was launched almost one year ago, first results will be presented with an emphasis on good learning practices with SDR equipments.

My colleague Laurent Franck (TELECOM Bretagne) will also present a SDR-based satellite channel emulator during the same workshop.

RALF presentation at the University of Toulouse

Internet of thing contest/day at INSA Toulouse

Thursday, 9th of April 2015, the Internet of Things (IoT) day will be held at INSA Toulouse.

A student contest is opened to all students from the University of Toulouse on the following topic : "Connected objects and services for future cities : smart cities".

Talk on software defined radio by Jeffrey Pawlan

RALF websites have been launched

Two websites have been deployed on the 27th of November 2014 in order to share informations on RALF :

http://ralf.isae.fr is the present website intended for institutional communication (project presentation, actors, main results...) ;
https://sourceforge.isae.fr/projects/ralf is the project's forge (technical documentation, resources inventory, loan procedures, ) and can also be used as a support for student projects.

In order to contribute to the forge, you should create an account first. If you are a member of ISAE-Supaero, click on the "Sign in" button in order to automatically initialize your account thanks to your usual login. If you are an external member, click on the "Register" button in order to create manually your account.

Initial hardware order received

Good news, we received our main order including 16 NI USRP transceivers on the 6th of January 2015. Upcoming steps include hardware testing, realization of USRP B200 enclosures, redaction of the loan agreement. The funding from the University of Toulouse (Toulouse Ingénierie 2014) has been totally emptied (23000 €) and completed by an ISAE-Supaero grant (3500 €).
